Lille & Bruges Christmas Markets
Lincoln - Dover - Calais - Lille - Bruges - Brussels - Lille - Ypres - Calais - Dover - Lincoln
A
Travelsphere coach trip, 10th to 13th December 2007
The brochure says:
Lille hosts the largest Christmas market in northern France - and certainly
the most exciting! You will love the giant Ferris Wheel, affording fabulous
views over the city and beyond. We also include a wonderful full day excursion
to Bruges.
DAY 0, Sunday 9th December: North Hykeham
As we will be leaving very early on Monday morning from Lincoln, I will be starting from Linda's. |
|
DAY 1, Monday 10th December: Lincoln to Lille
We will be picked up at about 2am (yep, middle of the night) in Lincoln so the
coach can get us to Dover for a mid-morning crossing to Calais.
We will have a late afternoon visit to Lille centre, the capital of 'Le Nord'
with its pedestrianised Grand Place and charming historic centre, 'Vieux Lille'.
Free time to enjoy the festive Christmas market held in the Place Rihour in the
centre of town.
We are then taken to our hotel on the outskirts of Lille
for a three night stay at the
Hotel Ibis Tourcoing.
DAY 2, Tuesday 11th December: Bruges
A full day excursion to the lovely town of Bruges, with its traditional gabled
houses and majestic churches, narrow cobbled streets and charming canals; not
forgetting the world-famous lace, chocolates and beer. We will have plenty of
time to explore on foot, by boat or on a horse and carriage. We might climb the
Bell Tower for amazing views of the city. We could relax and soak up the
atmosphere in one of the many bars and cafés or visit one of the cosy tap-rooms
to sample the famous Belgian beer.
In the evening there is an included transfer into Lille centre, where we can try
the popular bars and restaurants around the main square.
DAY 3, Wednesday 12th December: Brussels and Ypres
Optional tours today are:
A three-quarter day excursion to Brussels, Belgium's lively capital city, where
we can see the famous (but very small) Mannekin Pis in the Grand Place.
Ypres Evening Transfer - An opportunity to attend the moving Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.
Day 4, Thursday 13th December: Home via Calais
Depart Lille after breakfast. Visit the popular Cité Europe indoor shopping
centre before a late afternoon crossing back to the UK. Continue to our original
departure point in Lincoln in the evening. Actually, more like midnight or later
by the time we get there. I will stay overnight with Linda.
