New - searchable information

I've been using a package called Genopro to draw my family tree and display the information. You can use this to search for names and information about my relatives and ancestors,  I have done two separate reports.  One for my paternal ancestors and relatives: the Jackson, Tuck, Buckminster, Driscoll, Donovan, Wilmer and Tooig families and one for my maternal ancestors and relatives: the Bartlett, Blundell, Chamberlain, Morgan families.  Unless the information is already published elsewhere on the internet (on genesreunited, for example) I have restricted the information about living people to first names and year of birth only.  If full information is given on websites then I have included it.  There isn't a link on those pages to come back here - I don't know how to do that yet.

Family trees

I'm still working on the best way to put a family tree on here but till I do I have basic one (direct ancestors only) for the Jacksons and for the Bartletts.

Background

Both my parents, Jeremiah (Jerry) JACKSON and Rosina (Rosie) BARTLETT grew up in the same street: Cornwall Street in St George in the East,  (near, or part of, Stepney) in East London in England.  They were both the youngest children of large families.  This meant that I had lots of aunts and uncles and literally dozens of cousins (my parents claimed there were over a hundred)

Unfortunately,  by the time I was born all my grandparents had died and so had several of my aunts, uncles and even cousins.  Others had moved far away.  So I knew only a handful of my large family and could not even put names to all my aunts and uncles.  It was with the aim of naming those aunts and uncles that I started the addictive and time-consuming pastime of researching my family tree.  I had hoped to find some of my first cousins as well.  I've not managed that yet but have found some distant cousins with whom I share great-grandparents.  One lovely lady even sent me a photograph of my grandmother - thank you, Mary!

I plan to do separate trees and pages on this site for the Bartletts and Jacksons - if you are descended from or related to either of these east London families please look at the names and dates and see if we might be related.  If so, I'd love to hear from you - especially if you can fill in any of my 'blanks'.  Mail me at web.genes@jacqi.net

Census information

Information about the dates on which each census was taken and what questions were asked can be found on the census information page.

Cousins

First cousins, second cousins, cousins so-many-times-removed.  What does it all mean?  For me, my cousins are my cousins, people related to me by blood.  The levels of 'removal' for cousins refer to whether or not they are the same generation - not necessarily the same age as each other but whether you count back the same number of 'great's to a common ancestor.  A chart showing this can be found on the 'cousins' page.

Research

My initial research was done at the Family Records Centre in London where I looked through the large indexes.  Subsequently, much of it has been done on-line. A list of links to the sites I use can be found on the links page.
